During our inaugural family stayvacation with our 4-month-old, to compliment our annual tradition of visiting Salcombe since childhood, we booked this property for 7 nights, which was unfortunately cut short due to the properties poor cleanliness and inaccurate description.

If you're a physically fit adult with children 5+, the property is suitable. The front entrance has steep and narrow steps, making it challenging unless you're about 4 feet tall. The back entrance, located where you park, involves navigating four sets of steps until you reach the property ?quite inconvenient with a baby or a car full of bags. However, it's conveniently close to town, despite the hilly terrain, which you'll first encounter at the exit of the garden. This property is not suitable for young families with a buggy or anyone who isn't able-bodied.

Unfortunately, to say the cleanliness here was subpar is rather generous and reflects the overall rating. The sofa seemed to have hosted multiple dogs and felt rather grimy and stained. This appears to have been highlighted in reviews since 2019. Most windows, except for the back doors, were filthy and hadn't seen a cleaning in months (confirmed by owner). Cobwebs or spiders occupied about 70% of the corners, and various stains marred the carpets, which is likely dog urine, as confirmed by the owner. The kitchen floor sported an assortment of dog hair, and the scent of wet dog greeted us upon arrival. There was even dog feces in the garden. The mattress was also stained and contained either pubic or animal hair, which was found upon stripping the beds on our departure.

Enjoy limited sunshine during the day and pleasant evening meals in the garden. There's a built-in BBQ, but it requires charcoal. The garden is far from 'child friendly' also. The view of Salcombe estury however was fantastic, which added an extra star to this review.

Although compact, the kitchen offers sufficient space for two people to cook. It's equipped with a gas hob, oven, microwave, kettle, and toaster. Regrettably, it had a somewhat 'grubby' feel during our stay.

With all this said, I personally wouldn't recommend this property, or stay here again. We reported the above to Sykes Cottages during our stay and subsequently left the property early. On complaint, we were greeted by an insulting and sarcastic owner who lacked empathy nor was willing to resolve the complaint. I would avoid this holiday let.
