Description of the holiday cottage
Hill House Farm Cottage is 3 miles from Wedmore and near Cheddar in somerset, on a quiet lane in the small village of Upper Weare (11th cent. church), an attractive cottage with superb panoramic views from all rooms - expansive green fields towards Cheddar Gorge and reservoir in one direction, the Mendip Hills and Crook Peak in the other. At the front of Hill House Farm Cottage near Cheddarthere is a small enclosed, walled garden with gravelled sitting-out area (table/chairs) to enjoy those views. Friendly owners live in the attached farmhouse. Entrance hall (half-sized snooker table) with a few steps down to good-sized fitted kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, washing machine, microwave) with high, beamed apex ceiling, dining table/pews and stable doors to garden; ground-floor loo; living room (TV/DVD, open fire). Stairs up to galleried landing (sofa) and 4 more steps up to two bedrooms including a double with a 6 foot bed, and a twin; bathroom (suite plus hand-shower and separate shower). Nearest pub, 1 mile; other pubs/shops within 3 miles. Hill House Farm Cottage sleeps a maximum of 4 people including babies. Large, spacious and light; a scenic location, convenient for a wide range of interests.Sleeps: 4

| Cottage Review:
Although we generally enjoyed our stay, we felt that the description of the property on the website was misleading because the photos show what appears to be a self-contained property of which guests will have sole use. The property is in fact joined to the owners’ house by a glass walkway and the area below the twin bedroom and bathroom at the back of the house and next to the living room is partitioned for use by them. Although this area is self-contained the partitioning is removable “bookcases” which do not insulate sound well. We would not have booked the property if this had been made clear on the website. We have asked the owners and the holiday company to alter the description so guests can make an informed decision as to whether they are happy with this arrangement, but despite several exchanges they have only agreed to consider doing so. You will be able to see from the description in future whether they have taken this onboard. Of less importance, the under-counter fridge only has one shelf so you have to pile things up, and the kitchen wasn’t as clean as we would have expected. |
