Pentira, Kuggar, Helston, Cornwall Inc Scilly, TR12 7LY

We have stayed with Sally & Haydn several times and they were the perfect hosts being friendly and welcoming. When my partner had to go to hospital because of an illness and kept in for several days they were supportive and couldn't have done more for us. The house was full of character with comfortable rooms & beds, the kitchen had everything in that we needed, and there was plenty of space. They had beautifully large garden with chickens and a fish pond and they welcomed pets too. It was a short walk to the beach with a cafe, and even shorter walk to the friendly pub. There's plenty to see in Cornwall and some stunning walks nearby and quaint villages with pubs & restaurants. Overall it was a lovely relaxing & reasonably priced holiday and we'll definitely go back and stay again in the future.

One of the most lovely rentals I?ve stayed in. Beautiful well thought out decor and plenty of attention to detail in the furnishings and the beds so comfy, each bedroom with its own personality. Lots to look at in this house with a beautiful collection of art on h the walls. Set away from the road, it was lovely and peaceful with only a short walk through the village to the beach (passing a nearby pub )

What I loved most was the kitchen and dining room. The place was immaculate, garden well kept. Sally and Haydn were very gracious hosts and were happy to help when we needed them. I would definitely stay again. Wonderful place for a large family or group booking and dog friendly too.

A beautifully presented, clean and tidy house, with a lovely outdoor space too. Such luxuriously comfortable beds with proper cotton bedding, pure comfort. Each room is decorated to a very high standard and individually designed.

I found everything I needed to enjoy my stay and the hosts were on hand to answer any questions. They have wealth of local knowledge about the area, local beauty spots and hidden gems.

A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.

We arrived late on a Sunday afternoon after a 6 hour drive with 10 people including 2 very small children. Some of our party had driven 9 hours.

We found the house to be disgustingly dirty, hairs and other things in and on the bed sheets, and the bed sheets had stains on. There were layers of dust and dirt like months worth on most things and clumps of dog hair on the carpets. The lights and ceilings were covered in cobwebs and there was an abundance of spiders wherever you looked.

There was manky food bits and dog hair inside the fridge! (See photos).

The hosts were adamant that they?d spent all day cleaning, and still insisted it was acceptable.

The whole place needs several days of deep cleaning and maintenance.

Sykes Cottages were worse than useless, and kept insisting that we stay there. They eventually agreed that the photos showed a less than acceptable level of cleanliness, but it seems they are still offering this house on their site. They said they tried to relocate us, but by 11pm they hadn?t even bothered to respond and we had to give up. We had to sleep in the car that night which was a lot more hygienic than Pentira. We eventually got a refund a few days later, but no apology or compensation for what we?d been through. 6 hours away from home, and nowhere to stay. Sykes left us in the lurch well and truly. They admitted they have not inspected the property themselves and even now they?ve seen the photos, they still offer this property. I?ve had good experiences with Sykes in the past, but now I know how they desert you when things are bad, I and my family will never ever use them again. Worst holiday experience ever, because two hosts who have a grubby dirty house and can?t see the dirt before their own eyes and can?t be bothered to clean properly or use clean sheets. Shame on you both, Sykes and the hosts for treating us so badly. (The pictures say it all).
