Cottage Review:
This gets 3 stars because it is a 5-star property in a 1-star location. Sykes' description is self-contradicting, on the one hand saying, "The Old Mill Bake House is a detached cottage nestled in Goodrich, Herefordshire" and on the other, "Shop and pub 1.3 miles. Note: located close to the A40 so traffic noise is audible when outside." If it were nestled in the village of Goodrich, the pub would be round the corner and have no traffic noise. Goodrich is in fact nearly 2 miles from The Old Mill Bake House, while the property itself is nestled amid the relentlessly noisy A40, the busy B4229 and an industrial estate, specialising in motor repairs. Whitchurch is the nearest village, not Goodrich. If you're used to sleeping through traffic noise, then you'll have no problem. If you're seeking peace and quiet, look elsewhere. Sykes' full description at time if review: "This detached cottage lies in Goodrich, Herefordshire and can sleep two people in one bedroom. The Old Mill Bake House is a detached cottage nestled in Goodrich, Herefordshire. Hosting one king-size bedroom with en-suite shower, this property can sleep a couple. There is also a kitchen and a living/dining room with woodburning stove. To the outside is an enclosed multi-level garden with bike storage and off-road parking for two cars. The Old Mill Bake House is a fabulous retreat, perfect for a relaxing break to a scenic part of the country. Amenities: Oil central heating with woodburning stove. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 1.3 miles. Note: The property is next to the owners' property and located close to the A40 so traffic noise is audible when outside. Region: Herefordshire offers visitors the chance to journey through lush green countryside, enjoying splendid black-and-white timbered villages, a magnificent cathedral city, a fairytale Georgian castle at Eastnor or books galore in famous Hay-on-Wye. Town: The quaint village of Goodrich lies on the banks of the River Wye in South Herefordshire, close to Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean. The iconic Goodrich Castle sits within the village, standing in open countryside above the River Wye, Goodrich Castle is one of the finest and best preserved of all English medieval castles. The village is also home to the delightful village hall, and two pubs serving food. Close by, overlooking a large loop in the River Wye, is the historic market town of Ross-on-Wye, in the heart of rural Herefordshire" |
