Porth is a small beachside village about 2 miles northeast of Newquay. It has a quieter vibe compared to the bustling beaches of Newquay but still has the surfer and beach vibe going on. Porth Beach is a sheltered sandy beach, ideal for families, great surf and sand castle making here and it’s less exposed to the big Atlantic swells that hit other beaches so the surf is generally calmer. The beach is great for relaxing and sun bathing, swimming, body boarding and has a gentle slope so the waves are less powerful with a stream running down one side making it ideal for kids to have fun in.
The village has a pub, The Mermaid Inn and a few shops and Porth Joke, a secluded cove that the locals call "Polly Joke", really nice and quieter in the summer time. Porth is connected to Newquay by the South West Coastal Path, a great walk, especially if you have a dog with stunning views of the beaches of Newquay. Newquay is about a 10 minute drive or a 40-minute walk along the coastal path, enjoy the attractions and vibe and retreat to Porth when it all gets too much. There are several holiday cottages in Porth and lots more holiday parks in Newquay so you always have a good selection of accommodation to choose from.
